The change of the energy supply to renewable energies within the scope of the decarbonisation of the energy system, which is necessary for climate protection reasons, depends crucially on the question of storage possibilities due to the fluctuating supply. As part of the project, questions about the suitability of methanol as a fuel for modern internal combustion engines are to be clarified and needs for action identified.

At the General Assembly of the Association of Thermal Waste Treatment Plants (ITAD) in Frankfurt a.M., the future of waste incineration plants was discussed. The conclusion about the speech by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Faulstich (INZIN Institute) summarizes the trade magazine EUWID ( www.euwid-recycling.de) in its issue 24/2018 as follows.
„Waste incineration plants could deposit the carbon dioxide produced during thermal waste treatment and use it for the production of hydrogen, methane or methanol. These energy carriers are not only storable, but could also be used to produce fuels.“
